Castellum leases 7,700 sq. m. to the Swedish Police in award-winning property in central Jönköping

Castellum has signed a six-year lease with the Swedish Police Authority, which is thereby expanding its collaboration with Castellum and establishing operations in the award-winning Werket property in central Jönköping. In conjunction with occupancy, Castellum will construct a 2,200 sq. m. extension.

“The decision by the Police Authority to develop its operations together with us is confirmation of the strong trust between our organisations,” says Per Gawelin, Managing Director, Region Central, Castellum.

The Police Authority has been a tenant of Castellum in Jönköping for many years, in an adjacent building. The Authority has now decided to expand its premises and give itself the option in the future to move public services such as the passport office from the current police station.

“With its central location and unique character, Werket has quickly become a hub in Jönköping, and this collaboration represents an important step in our ambition to create an even more vibrant and attractive urban space,” says Andreas Georgii, Business Area Manager at Castellum Jönköping.

Prior to the move, Castellum will prepare general office premises and construct an extension comprising 2,200 sq. m., meaning that two new floors will be added to parts of the building. Extension work will commence at the end of the year and the Police Authority is scheduled to move into the property in early 2027.

“We are pleased that we can develop our premises together with Castellum. These new premises will help us cope with the extensive growth that is currently taking place in the police while also enabling us to improve our capacity to provide good service to citizens,” says Jan Sundström, from the Police Authority’s property management department.

Werket is one of Sweden’s foremost re-use projects and a prime example of how older buildings can be given a new lease of life using sustainable and innovative solutions. The property comprises approximately 22,000 sq. m. and was awarded Placebrander of the Year 2024 and the Jönköping City Planning Committee’s City Planning Award in 2023.

The new lease has an annual rental value of approximately SEK 23 M.
