On 11 December, Castellum will inaugurate the hundredth solar PV system in its property portfolio, thereby achieving one of its sustainability targets two year ahead of schedule. This solar power initiative now generates 17 per cent of the company’s annual energy consumption, corresponding to 17.2 GWh.
“Clear goals create forward momentum and commitment. Our employees have worked hard to reach our target, which promotes more renewable energy, a high degree of self-sufficiency in the company and greater profitability,” says Joacim Sjöberg, Chief Executive Officer of Castellum.
In 2020, Castellum launched its “100 on Solar” initiative with the target of building 100 solar PV systems by 2025. This initiative is one of the Nordic region’s largest investments in solar panels.
In total, Castellum has installed 120,000 square metres of solar panels, corresponding to the area of 22 football pitches, in its property portfolio. The company’s largest solar PV system – one of the largest in northern Europe – is in Gothenburg. The surface area of this solar PV system is 30,000 square metres, and it produces 3.3 GWh per year.
“Solar panels are a piece of the puzzle in Castellum’s efforts to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. They are also a key element in our power strategy, which is based on transforming buildings from passive energy guzzlers into active promoters of grid benefit, relieving an overburdened power grid,” says Filip Elland, Chief Sustainability Officer at Castellum.
